Detection Range

Detection range is the distance necessary between the active surface of the proximity switch and the object to cause a change in the state of the output (Fig. 9).

Correction Factor

Inductive: When using inductive proximity switches with non-ferrous metals it is necessary to apply a correction factor to the detection range specification as follows:

Brass D x 0,5
Aluminium D x 0,45
Copper D x 0,4
Chrom Nickel Alloy D x 0,9
Stainless Steel D x 0,85

Capacitive: With capacitive proximity switches detection range is usually adjustable and dependent on the type of material to be sensed (Fig. 10).

Optical: With optoelectronic proximity switches, the detection range is usually adjustable and is dependent on the reflective index of the material to be sensed, ie:

Styrene plastic, white approx. 1
Polished metal approx. 1,2 - 2
Aluminium, black anodized approx. 1,1 - 1,8
PVC, gray approx. 0,5 - 0,7
Wood, unfinished approx. 0,4 - 0,7
Cardboard approx. 0,1 - 0,2

Timer Function:
When altering the optical path length switching condition changes in a delayed manner (adjustment).
Turbo Function:
Increases light intensity of emitter for an easier adjustment.
Diagnostic Input:
The diagnostic input allows a controlled switch-off of the emitter, which can be used for function control of the sensor
Diagnostic Output:
The diagnostic output is active when light intensity is in the range of ± 20 % of the switching level.
